Ken Mueller achieves 1/2 CC Ribbon- JD Austin 2nd ACS PDF Print E-mail

Ken Mueller (right) is a salesman for Superlite Block (an Old Castle company ) has been an active member of Rio Copa Toastmasters since March 2008 and is the current Vice President of Membership in our club.  In March 2009 he achieved his 1/2 Competent Communicator Ribbon!  Currently he is only a few speeches away from achieving his Competent Communicator award from Toastmasters International!

 JD Austin (left) has been a member of Rio Copa Toastmasters sincd 2004 and has achieved his second Advanced Communicator Silver Award.  JD is a Database Administrator at Maricopa County Community College District and also owns a technology services and telephony business (Twin Geckos).  JD plans to achieve his second Distinguished Toastmaster award within the next 18 months.

Rio Copa does well in R4 Area Contest! PDF Print E-mail

The R4 Area Table Topics and International Speech Contest was on Saturday February 28th at the Univerisity of Phoenix near 32nd St. and I10. 

The first contest was the Table Topics contest.  Each contestant was asked the same question and judged on specific criteria.  The winner of the contest was a veteran contestant Michael Desiderio.  Rio Copa's Steven Martindale took 2nd place!  Steven previously competed in the R4 Area Tall Tales contest and WON!  This is his first time competing in Table Topics.

The second contest was the R4 International Speech Contest.  The winner of the contest was veteran contestant Paul Prunoforte.  Rio Copa's Dave Endres took 2nd place!  This is Dave's first contest; he did well!

Rio Copa Toastmasters International Speech Contest Results PDF Print E-mail

Jeff Stafford won 1st Place in Rio Copa's International Speech contest on  February 4th, 2009.

 Dave Endres took 2nd place.

Since Jeff has a conflicting event on February 28th, Dave Endres will represent Rio Copa at the R4 Area Contest.

Steven Martindale takes 1st in Table Topics PDF Print E-mail

Steven will represent Rio Copa Toastmasters at the R4 Area Table Topics Contest.

timfarley3rdtt.jpgTim Farley took 3rd place and joined our club just a few weeks ago!  It was a very close race for 3rd; Mike Myer also competed.


Table Topics is a traditional part of Toastmasters and enables members to practice impromptu (off the cuff) speaking.  For the contest each contestant is asked the same question and judges determine the winner based on specific criteria such as speech development, effectiveness, vocal variety, and language used.

Congratulations to all four contestants that competed!!!

Founding Rio Copa President Achieves ACB Award! PDF Print E-mail

miketrieracb.jpgThe founding President of Rio Copa Toastmasters, Mike Trier, has achieved his Advanced Communicator Bronze award!  Mike completed the Advanced Specialty Speeches and Advanced Public Relations manuals to achieve the award.  Previously Mike achieved the Competent Communicator Award.  For more about the Toastmasters Award path click here.

Mike is the current Maricopa County District Office MAT President (an employee organization) and Senior Budget Analyst at MCCCD.  Congratulations Mike!!!

Rico Burton Becomes 3rd Area Governor from Rio Copa And Received Toastmaster of the Year! PDF Print E-mail

rico.jpgRico Burton has been appointed the R1 Area Governor for the 2008-2009 Toastmasters year which ends on June 30, 2009!  The R1 Area consists of seven clubs in the scottsdale area with about 150 members.

Rico will have achieved a major portion of the leadership track this year and is on track to achieve her Distinguished Toastmaster Award in 2009-2010 or sooner!

The previous Toastmasters District Officers from Rio Copa were

  • Patrick Fitzgerald was the G5 Area Governor in 2006-2007.
  • JD Austin was the R4 Area Governor in 2006-2007 and Rio Division Governor in 2007-2008

Patrick Fitzgerald achieves CC Award! PDF Print E-mail

patrickcc_feb2009.jpgPatrick Fitzgerald joined our club in May 2006.  Since that time he has achieved a lot of awards and has grown much from the experience!  He achieved his Distinguished Toastmaster Award (the highest award available in Toastmasters) in July 2007,  has been an Area Governor, assistant Division Governor and is still working the Toastmasters Educational Program to imporve his Communication and Leadership skills.  Patrick has served many terms as a club officer in Rio Copa and is currently our President.
