Steven Martindale & Andrew Lenartz win Rio Copa Contests Print E-mail

Rio Copa Toastmasters held our Tall Tales Speech Contest on January 24th and our International Speech Contest on January 31st.

Steven Martindale won the Rio Copa Toastmasters Tall Tales Speech Contest!

Steven has achieved the Competent Toastmaster and Competent Leader awards and is currently working towards his Advanced Communicator Bronze Award. 

Steven is founding member of Rio Copa Toastmasters  which started in May 2003 and the current Vice President of Education.  

Elliot Cherner was the second place winner in the contest.
If Steven is unable to attend the R4 Area contest Elliot will represent Rio Copa Toastmasters.

 

 

 


 

January 31st, 2007

andrew_int_contestAndrew Lenartz won the Rio Copa Toastmasters International Speech Contest!

Andrew has achieved the Competent Toastmaster award and is currently working towards his Advanced Communicator Bronze Award. 

Andrew joined Rio Copa Toastmasters in November 2005 and is a Senior Organizational Process Analyst in the Employee and Organizational Development at the Maricopa Community College District office.

Elliot Cherner was the second place winner in the contest. If Andrew  is unable to attend the R4 Area contest Elliot will represent Rio Copa Toastmasters.

The R4 Area contest will be held on March 27th, 2007 at 6pm in the Rio Salado Conference Center.

 

 
Patrick Fitzgerald Achieves Competent Communicator Award and Advanced Communicator Gold! Print E-mail

Patrick Fitzgerald joined our club a few months ago and became our new Vice President Public Relations on January 1st.  On Wednesday January 10th he achieved his Competent Communicator Award which would have been his second 'Competent ToastMaster Award' under the old award system that change in July 2006. The Competent Toastmaster Award has the same requirements as the Competent Communicator Award.  

He's began his third run through the Basic Communicaton manual the same day he was awarded his Competent Communcator ribbon shown here. 

Patrick has been retired for a few years and recently started Careful Eyes Business Services, a mystery shopper company, that focuses on personal service and helping businesses better service their customers.  He spends his spare time in Toastmasters activities and is currently the G5 Area Governor .  He plans to achieve his Distinguished ToastMaster award  in July.

January 24th, 2006

Facilitating the Improving Your Management Skills Leadership Program at Toastmasters Leadership Institute on 1/22/2007 was the last requirement that Patrick Fitzgerald needed to complete his Advanced Communicator Gold award. 

  • Achieved Advanced Communicator Silver award (or achieved Able Toastmaster Bronze award or AdvancedToastmaster Silver award)
  • Completed two additional advanced communication manuals (may not be those completed for any previous award)
  • Conducted a Success/Leadership Program, Success/Communication Program or a YouthLeadership Program
  • Coached a new member with the first three speech projects
 
Andrew Lenartz Achieves Competent Communicator Award Print E-mail

Andrew Lenartz joined Rio Copa Toastmasters in November 2005  has achieved the Competent Communicator award from Toastmasters International by completing his 10th speech from the Toastmasters basic Communication manual on November 22nd, 2006.

Andrew is a Senior Org Process Analyst and recently became a full time employee at Maricopa County Community College District.  He is currently on vacation getting married in Mexico!

When he returns he will be working toward his Advanced Communicator Bronze award with the Advanced Persuasive Speaking   and Humorously Speaking manuals.

Rio Copa becomes a member of the '3D' Club! Print E-mail

Each year Toastmaster clubs that have been a 'Distinguished Club' or better for three consecutive years or more  become members of the '3D' club.  Rio Copa Toastmasters have becomed a member this club for the first time.  This is a great accomplishment since Rio Copa Toastmasters was formed barely over three years old!  Rio Copa met the requirements to be a Distinguished club the first year and have been President's Distinguished since.

The Toastmasters Distinguished Club Program encourages clubs to focus on the educational needs of the members and the administrative needs of the club by setting 10 club goals that the club should try to meet:

Educational goals for members of the club: 

  1. Two Competent Communicators
  2. Two more Competent Communicators
  3. One Advanced Communicator Bronze, Silver, or Gold
  4. One more Advanced Communicator Bronze, Silver, or Gold
  5. One Competent Leader, Advanced Leader Bronze, Advanced Leader Silver, or Distinguished Toastmaster
  6. One more Competent Leader, Advanced Leader Bronze, Advanced Leader Silver, or Distinguished Toastmaster
Membership building and retention goals:
  1. Four new members
  2. Four more new members
Officer training goals:
  1. Minimum of four club officers trained during each of two training periods
Club administration goals:
  1. One semiannual membership report and one club officer list submitted on time

5 of 10 = Distinguished

7 of 10 = Select Distinguished

9 of 10 = President's Distinguished

Elliot Cherner and Steven Martindale Compete at Area Contest Print E-mail
Rio Copa Club Contests

September was a great month at Rio Copa Toastmasters.  We had our first ever Evaluation and Humorous speech contest, hosted the the R3 and R4 Area Contests at Rio Salado, and even placed in the R4 Area contest!   

elliot_steven9_26_06 Our first ever club evaluation contest was held in early September.  Our winner was Andrew Lenartz, second place was Mike Trier, and third place was Steven Martindale.  Rio Copa had our first humorous speech contest a week before the R3/R4 Area Contest and Elliot Cherner was the winner. 

Since Mike and Andrew were unable to attend the Area Contest, Steven Martindale attended to represent Rio Copa Toastmasters.  

 

 

 

R4 Area Contest

Special thanks to the staff at Rio Salado for setting up the room exactly as needed for the R3 and R4 Area Contest on September 27th.  There were many positive  comments from Toastmasters and guests in attendance about the quality of the faclities and attention to detail that the staff took to ensure that the event was setup properly.  

elliotcherner The R3 and R4 Area Contest was held in the Rio Salado Conference Center on September 27th.  Elliot Cherner and Steven Martindale competed against the club winners of the other clubs in the area in the Humorous and Speech Evaluation  Contests. 

Elliot Cherner won second place in the Humorous Speech Contest with his speech about umpiring little league. 

 

 

 

 

 

 
JD Austin wins Outstanding Area R4 Toastmaster of the Year Award Print E-mail

jdaustin_r2areatmJD Austin received the Outstanding Area R4 Toastmaster of the Year 2005-2006 Award at the Area Contest on September 26, 2006.  The award is given to one member in each area each year.  There is also an award given at the division and district level. 

All District 3 Toastmasters in good standing (except District officers) may submit an application.  Points are earned for educational and service accomplishments as well as involvement at the Club level and selection is based solely on the application.  The highest point holder is awarded the honor of being announced as the District Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year at July Jubilee.  The official certificate from Toastmasters International and presentation of the traveling trophy are presented at the Fall Conference.  Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year trophies are also selected for each Division and Area.  These awards are presented at Fall Speech Contests for each Area and Division.
