TI Introduces New Leadership Manual and Awards PDF Print E-mail

Toastmasters International is making some exciting changes in its educational system and award designations. In January 2006, new leadership award programs will be introduced and educational awards will be renamed in order to distinguish between speech programs and leadership programs. This will strengthen leadership training and make all educational designations in the communication and leadership tracks clearer and more meaningful. The development of leadership skills has always been part of the Toastmasters program. Members have had the opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills while serving in various club meeting roles and in officer positions. In fact, many people join because they want to improve their leadership skills. Beginning in 2006, you will see the following improvements in TI’s educational program:

As of 2/15/2006 Rio Copa Toastmasters is a Select Distinguished club!

As of 01/25/2006 Rio Copa Toastmasters is a distinguished club!
With five months remaining we have completed five SIX  SEVEN EIGHT! of the ten Distinguished Club Program objectives! 

Toastmaster International's monitors and measures the achievement of each club in education and membership using the Distinguished Club Program.   Membership growth is measured from a membership base determined on July 1st each year. 

Clubs with at least 20 members OR with net growth of at least five new members at June 30 which meet the DCP educational goals and membership goals are eligible for TI recognition at year end.

Achieve five of ten goals
Distinguished Club 
Achieve seven of ten goals    
Select Distinguished Club

How Toastmasters Works

 At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice:

  • Conducting meetings. Meetings usually begin with a short business session which helps members learn basic meeting procedures.
  • Giving impromptu speeches. Members present one-to two-minute impromptu speeches on assigned topics.
